The Help

"The Help" is a dramatic movie.

Director: Tate Taylor
Writers: Tate Taylor(screenplay),Kathryn Stockett(novel)
Stars: Emma Stone,Viola Davis,Octavia Spencer

Plot:
An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid's point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.

Personal Review:
An unexpectedly great film. When I first saw the trailer I thought it would be just a common film but it was very interesting. It was also funny at some points regardless being called a "dramatic" film. It's the true stories of how maids were treated in America on the 1960s.It makes you hate people for the way they treat the others and it leaves you a bittersweet feeling in the end.It helps you understand that no matter what your colour is you have feelings, needs and thoughts just like anyone else.Plus,Octavia Spencer won both a golden globe and an Oscar for her role in "The Help" and I think she was totally worth it!

Cast:
Emma Stone-Skeeter Phelan

Full Metal Jacket

"Full Metal Jacket" is a dramatic and a war movie.

Director: Stanley Kubrick
Writers: Gustav Hasford(novel),Stanley Kubrick(screen play)
Stars: Matthew Modine,R.Lee Ermey,Vincent D'Onofrio

Plot:
A pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow Marine recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting set in 1968 in Hue, Vietnam.

Personal Review:
Another Kubrick film I really wanted to see thanks to my uncle(Thanks Mike!!).I just loved it!Generally I've noticed that I really like Kubrick films mostly because they are different. and you can actually see a part of realitu hidden in them. There is something revolutionary about the way he films. This one was about the war at Vietnam and you could actually understand the cruelty of war.You could feel how scared the soldiers were at first, you could see how the army made them believe they were killing machines and you could see that they reach one point where they can't feel anything.I think that this movie is a masterpiece. And of course it's violent once it is about war but totally recommended.

Matthew Modine-Pvt.J.T."Joker"Davis

500 days of summer

"500 days of Summer" is a comedy, romantic film.

Marc Webb
Director: Marc Webb
Writers: Scott Neustadter,Michael Weber
Stars: Zooey Dechanel,Joseph Gordon-Levitt,Geoffrey Arend

Plot:
An offbeat romantic comedy about a woman who doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man who falls for her.

Personal Review:
It might be one of the best movies I've seen this year..I really wanted to watch it because I had heard so many good things about it but generally I'm not into the whole romantic style in the movies,so I wasn't sure if I was going to like it.But as it says when the film starts "This is not a romantic story".And it's not.You don't know what's gonna happen in the end and you're just thrilled to see what's going on.I also loved Summer's thoughts and I do believe she's right about some things.i totally recommend it and don't worry you are not going to need any hugs or any tissues. It's just a wonderful film about relationships.

Cast:
Joseph Gordon/Levitt-Tom
Zooey Dechanel-Summer
Geoffrey Arend-McKenzie

2001:A space Odyssey

"2001:A space Odyssey" is an adventure,sci-fi movie.
Stanley Kubrick

Director: Stanley Kubrick
Writers: Stanley Kubrick,Arthur C. Clarke
Stars: Keir Dullea,Gary Lockwood,William Sylvester

Plot:
Mankind finds a mysterious, obviously artificial, artifact buried on the moon and, with the intelligent computer HAL, sets off on a quest.
Personal Review:
Another Kubrick film which wasn't as good as the rest of his films that I've seen.Actually it didn't really have an easy explaned plot and there were only a few dialogs. But it had some scenes of space which were simply amazing(if you like these kind of things,I know I do) and don't forget the perfect music Kubrick always chooses for his movies.I liked the idea of travelling to space like we travel across from one country to another. And also it has so many features that it's amazing if you think tha the movie was shoot in 1968.If you want to watch it then go ahead.I can't promise you that you'll undersatnd it(I didn't understand some parts) but it's worth it only for the space scenes and the classic music. If you do watch it try being open minded.

Cast:

Keir Dullea-Dr.Dave  Bowman
Gary Lockwood-Dr.Frank Poole

Rebecca

"Rebecca" is a dramatic, mysterious and romantic movie.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Writers: Daphne Du Maurier(novel),Robert E. Sherwood(screenplay)
Stars: Laurence Olivier,Joan Fontaine

Plot:
When a naive young woman marries a rich widower and settles in his gigantic mansion, she finds the memory of the first wife maintaining a grip on her husband and the servants.

Personal Review:
I do admire Hitchcock and his movies a lot but I have my doubts on this one. When I first read about it I was very excited because it indeed has a very interesting plot. There is mystery everywhere and if you like that then watch it.The bad thing was that it lasted too long.It was almost 2 hours and a half,so you get tired at one point. It kept me interested until the first time the mystery was solved but it turned out that it hadn't been solved so I was like here we go again...Do watch it if you want and remember that it is a good movie but it would be better if it didn't last so long,at least that's my opinion.

Cast:
Laurence Olivier-Maxim De Winter
Joan Fontaine-Mrs.De Winter
Judith Anderson-Mrs.Danvers

A dangerous method

"A dangerous method" is a biography, dramatic and thriller movie.

Writers: David Cronenberg(screenplay),John Kerr(book)
Stars: Michael Fassbender,Keira Knightley,Viggo Mortensen
David Cronenberg

Plot:A look at how the intense relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud gives birth to psychoanalysis.

Personal Review:
I was a little bit dissapointed by this film.I don't know if my expectations were too high but I can reassure you that when the commercial was on they kept talking about something like a masterpiece. It wasn't a masterpiece. It was a good film, rather interesting if you like pshychology(I know I do).The thing is that it kind of explains how the well known Dr.Freud adopted his theory about phychoanalysis.I didn't say that I don't like it,but I was expecting it to be different.Watch it and judge yourself.

Cast:

Michael Fassbender-Carl Jung

Keira Knightley-Sabina Spielrein

Viggo Mortensen-Sigmund Freud
Vincent Cassel-Otto Gross
Sarah Gadon-Emma Jung

A clockwork orange

"A clockwork orange" is a crime,dramatic and sci-fi film.

Stanley Kubrick

Director: Stanley Kubrick
Writers: Stanley Kubrick(screenplay),Anthony Burgess(novel)
Stars: Malcom McDowell,Patrick Magee,Michael Bates

Plot:
In future Britain, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society's crime problem... but not all goes to plan.

Personal Review:
As it seems,i have become a little bit of a Kubrick's fan(he was the director of "The shining" too) but this movie was different than the other...I was surprised because a teacher at my school wanted to show it to us but he decided not to and now I can understand why. It's a great movie talking about brain wash, something that we are not fully aware of,and I must say it has affected me.The thing is that it's very violent. It has some scenes that make you feel bad and I agree that some people shouldn't watch it if they aren't comfortable with these kind of movies. And if you decide to watch it don't try to explain everything using logic because the point is that it shows different things from these that it actually means...

Cast:
Malcolm McDowell-Alex DeLarge
Warren Clarke-Dim
